Tom and his brother Fred purchased their Hillsdale Chrysler dealership in 1986 when they were both in their early 20s. In 1997, Tom led that dealership into the automotive Internet market and within one year became one of the top Internet dealers in the country. In July, 1999, Hillsdale secured the position of being the fastest growing full-line Chrysler dealerships in DaimlerChrysler's Detroit Zone (largest in the world). Tom is currently an owner/partner in three dealerships that enjoy Internet closing ratios between 25-30%. Their total Internet sales alone surpassed 1,800 units in 1999. Amazingly, all three dealerships are in towns with population under 9,000 people. Doug became a new car dealer at age 24 and today represents thirteen new car manufacturers. His Waikem Auto Group has annual sales of $150 million of which 20% is done on the Internet. Doug's profits were up 40% over 1998, due to the growth of his Internet department, which now has twelve employees. In 1999, The Waikem Auto Group delivered over one thousand vehicles sold through the Internet. Doug Waikem has chaired numerous Internet 20 Groups for Autobytel.com and his dealerships have been featured in over two hundred newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal.
